Everyone’s dunking on Amazon after its drone dropped a package in a Texas pool.
I’m betting this is a customer-engineered stunt.
Before making a delivery, Amazon uses aerial imagery to give the user a set of acceptable drop points to choose from.
So one of three things happened:
Amazon’s app incorrectly gave the user the option of the pool, and the user chose it.
The pool is normally covered, so Amazon’s scanning detected it as a valid point, which the user chose.
Amazon’s drone missed the user-selected drop point.
In two of these scenarios the user picked the pool.
Oh, and they just happened to be videotaping at the same time it dropped the package.
The timing is perfect for a viral prank: this comes the same week as Amazon’s announced expanded drone delivery across 500 US cities.
Of course, maybe the customer ordered a pool lounger and wanted to skip the unboxing.
That would be true genius.
